Our Story

The Mt. Shasta Farmers’ Market was founded in 1999 by local farmers John Tannaci and Kirsten Olson. From the very humble beginnings of hosting only three vendors, the market has steadily grown to become the vibrant weekly event that it is today with over 30 vendors, music, and incredible support from the City of Mt. Shasta and the community at large.

Understanding that the market could benefit greatly from partnering with a non-profit entity, John & Kirsten gave ownership of the market to JEDI, Jefferson Economic Development Institute, at the end of the 2014 market season. JEDI is a local 501.c.3 organization focusing on building and strengthening local businesses and entrepreneurship. In the role of directing the farmers’ market JEDI continues focusing on the founding principles of promoting and growing local agriculture, increasing access to fresh food, and educating consumers. Additionally, JEDI embraces new projects to increase the customer base, educate the community at large and continue to grow the market. Read more below:
